Churches & worship

LED walls for churches.

Lyrics and IMAG that read from the back row without killing the house lights — and without a projector fighting the windows.

Modern church sanctuary with LED walls flanking the stage, readable in daylight
The problem

Why the usual answer does not work.

Almost every church that calls us has the same projector: bright enough on paper, washed out in practice, because the sanctuary has windows and the service is in the morning. The usual fix is to dim the room, which is the opposite of what a welcoming space wants, or to buy a brighter projector, which buys perhaps two more stops before you are back where you started.

An LED wall emits its own light rather than reflecting someone else's. At 600 to 700 nits it stays legible with the blinds open and the house lights up, which means you stop designing the room around the screen.

Sizing

How we size it.

Throw away the room size and count the rows
The number that decides your size is the distance to the back row, not the square footage. For lyrics and scripture — text, not video — the working rule is that the furthest viewer should sit no more than four times the screen height away. A 6 ft 8 in tall wall covers a back row at about 27 ft. A 13 ft 3 in wall covers about 53 ft.
Then check the front row
Pitch decides how close somebody can sit before they see pixels rather than words. At 1.5 mm that is about 5 ft, which is closer than any pew in a church. Front-row proximity is rarely the constraint in a sanctuary, which is why we specify a coarser, cheaper pitch here than we would in a boardroom.
Two walls or one
Flanking the platform with a matched pair is common, and each one is sized on its own against the back row. Two I-3s read better than a single I-5 in a wide, shallow room, because everyone gets a square-on view of one of them.
Sizes that fit

Tell us the distance from your platform to the back row and whether the room has windows. That is enough to size it.

Questions

What people ask us.

What size LED wall does a church need?

It depends on the distance to your back row, not on seating capacity. For lyrics and scripture, keep the furthest viewer within four times the screen height. Our I-3 at 11'10" x 6'8" covers a back row at roughly 27 feet; the I-4 at 15'9" x 8'10" reaches about 35 feet; the I-5 at 23'7" x 13'3" reaches about 53 feet. Measure from the platform to the last row and we will size it with you.

Will an LED wall work with the lights on?

Yes. That is the main reason churches move away from projection. An LED wall produces its own light at 600 to 700 nits indoors, so it stays readable with house lights up and daylight through the windows. A projector reflects light off a screen and loses that fight.

Can we put an LED wall behind the worship team?

Yes, and it is the most common layout we install. The thing to plan for is spill onto faces for camera and onto the platform itself. We set brightness and content levels at commissioning so the wall supports the stage rather than lighting it.

How much does a church LED wall cost?

The screen and the mount price from the standard sizes. Installation, electrical work and any structural attachment are quoted after we look at the building. Tell us your back-row distance and we will come back with the screen and mount number quickly.
